In the Camden council area, there’s always something around the corner that will fulfil your strong need for entertainment while suiting your budget. Stay tuned for more! From getting blocked by large native animals and birds to staying on the left side of the road, driving in the land down under can be a heart-pounding experience to newbies and tourists. So, if you're visiting Australia and are planning to drive around on your own, here's a guide to make your driving experience more comfortable: 1. Licensing International visitors can drive in Australia with their foreign licence for three months. The licence should be in English, otherwise, you will have to obtain an International Drivers Permit (IDP) from your home country to use in Australia. Those who wish to drive longer than three months should also attain a driver's licence from the state in which they intend to drive. If you aren’t that confident with your driving skills, taking driving lessons in Penrith or in other suburbs can also help in passing the exam and getting your licence with ease. 2. Learning the road rules Road rules in Australia, like in most former British colonies, are quite different. For instance, here we drive on the left side of the road. We’re strict when it comes to speed limits, wearing seatbelts and the use of hand-held mobile phones. There are rules that differ from one state to another too. Some states prohibit visiting drivers to drink any alcohol while driving; others only penalise those with blood alcohol content of over 0.05%. In more serious cases, they can also lose their licence and face criminal charges. 3. Fuelling up your car Unlike the gas stations in other countries where you can pay at the gas pump using a credit card, service stations (servos for Aussies) here are all self-service. You need to fill your car up on your own and then go into the servo to pay in person. Be mindful though of how often and how much gas you fill your car with. Australia is vast with a lot of isolated roads. You wouldn’t want to run out of fuel in places where there are no convenient service stations that you may access. Once you get accustomed to Australia's rules and regulations, you'll find that driving here is actually a whole lot of fun. Whenever in doubt, remember this: keep left unless overtaking. Driving on the left-hand side of the road is always the right way to go.
